Make, Hack, Void

We are Make Hack Void, an association of geeks & artists. We are forming a Hackerspace in Canberra.

We hold Maker Meetups every fortnight where anyone can chat, show and tell, get help or advice, and talk about their projects. Everyone is welcome at our meetings.

Our group includes people from diverse backgrounds: artistic, technical, mechanical, even retail! We're all interested in making things, hacking on projects, and we're not afraid of voiding warranties if we have to.

If you can't make it to the next meeting then join us on IRC, or subscribe to the Makers mailing list.

Drilling square holes

deece — Mon, 01/03/2010 - 7:32am

Heres an article explaining how a "Watt's Drill" works. It is a drill bit with an off-centre Reuleaux triangle bit which will cut an almost-square shape.

Boring holes down rods

deece — Sat, 27/02/2010 - 6:54pm

Heres a good technique for boring holes straight down the centre of rods. http://vik-olliver.blogspot.com/2010/02/drilling-down-middle.html

This means we can now make most of the plastruder heater barrel ourselves instead of having to buy it!

Workshop space in Hume

deece — Sat, 27/02/2010 - 12:04pm

I found this place in Hume, 3x8M suitable for a workshop. Asking price is $77/week. It probably large enough to tide us over for 6 months-1 year.

Possible Space in Braddon turned down

Adam — Thu, 25/02/2010 - 2:14pm

Because we could not come to a conclusion in time I had to turn down the offer of the space. I'll be doing a longer write up in the agenda notes which I'll have Gus read out at the meeting or you can try and catch me on IRC.

Inspection of possible space.

Adam — Tue, 23/02/2010 - 3:38pm

Some of us have organised to see a potential space at 1800 tonight in Braddon. Jump in irc.freenode.net/#makehackvoid and ask someone for the address. We'll still be at the regular meeting where we will knuckle down and start asking hard questions about money and policy.

Arduino Hackfest

deece — Sat, 20/02/2010 - 8:29am

20/02/2010 12:00
Australia/ACT

We shall be holding a small (6 hour) hackfest to come up with a set of generic libraries for use with AVR projects that performs better than the Arduino runtimes. We may end up with a hacked Arduino runtime, or we may create something from scratch.

Start time is midday at the Wig & Pen Now moved to PJ OReily's since the Wig & Pen does not open until 2pm.

2 days 21 hours ago — @evildeece If you're keen to give it a try I'm pretty sure @projectgus has a teensy. I believe he's been running python on it.
