We are Make Hack Void, a Hackerspace* in Canberra, Australia.
Our space (Map) is a community workshop in Downer where members can come to work on their projects, get access to tools and expertise, and meet like-minded people. We have membership options including associate & student membership rates, and casual membership rates.
We also hold Maker Meetups on the 1st, 3rd & 5th Tuesdays of each month where anyone at all can chat, show and tell, get help or advice, and talk about their projects. You don't have to be a member to come to a Meetup.
Our group includes people with extremely diverse interests. Fibreglass moulds to FPGA electronics, Arduinos to DIY pizza ovens. Plus lots more. We're all interested in making things, hacking on projects, and we're not afraid of voiding warranties if we have to.
If you can't make it to the next meeting then subscribe to the Makers mailing list, follow us on Twitter, Facebook, or join us in the IRC channel.

Relocate async writing from HardwareSerial to Device_TX. HardwareSerial & Display_Monochrome implement this, and all subclasses now support async text support.
Heads up!
As a result of the above change, the asyncWrite() calls to HardwareSerial are no longer supported, and instead are replaced by write() calls inherited from Device_TX.
Maker Meetup, June 21
angusgr — Thu, 23/06/2011 - 10:39pm
Maker Meetups have been a bit quiet since the winter weather set in, although we've now bought an industrial heater - it should arrive before the first July meetup. On Tuesday, about a dozen intrepid Makers braved the shortest day of the year - bringing UAV kit, Arduino-powered synths, nerf guns, server testing and lots of nerdy talk.

Ammo Counter for Nerf Gun
wil5on — Tue, 21/06/2011 - 11:58am
The ammo counter, the most ubiquitous and humble of FPS game elements, but completely absent from Nerf combat (apart from some transparent magazines). I decided to remedy this!
I've taken a Nerf Stampede (electric, fully automatic, clip-fed) and added an IR light gate to detect shots, broken out one of the clip insertion interlock switches to detect reloading, and added a display for the count, with an Arduino to act as the brains.
Community Survey
angusgr — Sun, 19/06/2011 - 8:22pm
We're running a community survey to try and find out more about the people in and around MHV.
If you're reading this, that means you! It'll only take a few minutes to fill in, it's totally anonymous, and we're giving away "free hacking" tokens for people who fill them - come and use some tools, or give the token to someone who will.
Experimenting with Google Calendar
angusgr — Tue, 14/06/2011 - 11:20pm
We've decided to experiment with a Google Calendar for our MHV Space opening times, including future Maker Meetups. iCal link.

Special Maker Meetup / CLUG Meeting this Thursday
angusgr — Mon, 23/05/2011 - 12:26pm
This Thursday is a special event Maker Meetup, as we are hosting CLUG (the Canberra Linux User's Group) in our space. The meeting will start at 7pm.
We'll be giving a quick general tour & introduction to MHV, and talking briefly about some of the other ongoing projects/tools in the space. If there are any Makers who have a finished/semi-finished project that they would like to display and talk about for 5 minutes (standard Meetup show and tell), then this would be appreciated
.
