We are Make Hack Void, an association of geeks & artists. We are forming a Hackerspace in Canberra.

We hold Maker Meetups every fortnight where anyone can chat, show and tell, get help or advice, and talk about their projects. Everyone is welcome at our meetings.

Our group includes people from diverse backgrounds: artistic, technical, mechanical, even retail! We're all interested in making things, hacking on projects, and we're not afraid of voiding warranties if we have to.

If you can't make it to the next meeting then join us on IRC, or subscribe to the Makers mailing list.

A service outage! Oh My.

Adam — Fri, 14/05/2010 - 10:12am

We had a bit of server trouble yesterday after a PHP upgrade and some other changes meant that this specific instance of Drupal was causing the serving Apache thread to segfault. As there was some new module and database activity going on prior to the outage our sysadmin attempted to resolve the issue  with a database restore. While it's nice to know our backups are working, the last snapshot was from before my blog entry regarding some concers about our web presence.

SMS via Ubuntu

Owen — Tue, 13/04/2010 - 3:18pm

I have a Samsung SGH-A411 and wondered if I could send a sms from my linux machine. This URL was the basis of the program below.

Using CPAN to install Device::Gsm I notice it also installed Device::Modem. I already had Device::USB installed.

The serial device was discovered via dmesg.
