Separate committee meetings

• Not everyone is interested in "committee business" of running the group.
• Will attempt to separate "committee meetings" from general hacking, show and tell, sessions.
• Committee meetings may not need to be weekly (especially after things are up and running.)
• Non-committee members still welcome at committee meetings.

Web site redesign

• Angus has found a potential designer, will work "quid pro bono" (has some projects he'd like assistance with, doing light painting & photography stuff.)
  • Suggested a "Propaganda" theme - OK with the group.
  • Possibility of a new logo. People like the current logo, but are open to the possibility of changing it. Any new logo will need to be simple enough to be easily reproduced physically (ie laser cut.)

Documentary film makers

• Adam has a contact
• Stressed we have no money, possiblity of grants (ABC/SBS?)
• Are people happy to be filmed? Yes from all present. Eyal
  retains veto right over his image.
• Are people happy to be interviewed? Yes from some present, not all.

Upcoming presentations

• ANU School of Art
• TEDx Talk
• CLUG talk about MHVLib, possibly other stuff
• All 3 to be organized via IRC and other channels, by interested parties.

Plasma Cutter

• Scrapped: Poor value for money, old, we have no available funds yet anyhow.
• Quick discussion about how group purchases of this kind are to be managed. Suggested option is currently "Interested parties donate money to the Association, for the purpose of buying the item. Association buys and then owns the item."

Meeting rooms

• Have outgrown the Canberra Centre, plus it's noisy.
• Want to keep meeting on Tuesdays (is working thus far.)
• Clubs (ie Rugby Club) with meeting rooms -> Jack to follow up.
• Griffin Centre -> Angus to follow up.
• Braddon Club -> Someone to follow up (damn my handwriting, sorry.)
• Olims meeting room -> Angus to follow up.

Report on R&D Visit

• Similar size to us, 18 members.
• We are at approximately the same stage as they were last June.
• Growing pains
• Drive to attract new members, printing novel items to hand out.
• Attracting sponsors, working out sponsorship proposal.

Doing some business cards

• Cheap, easy way to get the word out
• Print a lot, members can have some to hand out, can leave them
  in "likely places" for interested people to find.
• Have the website URL, maybe one of those barcode-box Android things that I can't remember the name of.
• Need to think up some trendy text, then my designer friend Drew has said he'll design us something cool looking (should match the web site.)
• Suggested printing places: moo.com, vistaprint.com.au, the printing place in Braddon
• Angus has offered to fund some out of his own pocket, to tune of about $100. If anyone else wants to donate then we'll print even more!

Soldering Tutorial

• Lots of interest, should try to get organized.
• Custom project: MintyBoost, custom board for Eclipse mint tins, custom boost circuit based on AVR or similar.
• Will be further organized via IRC by interested parties.

Money

• Jack donated $50 on the spot (go Jack!)
• Geoff our new treasurer
• Geoff to open (investigate) a non-profit bank account.
• Discussion of the perils of Paypal, and that we can probably do without a payment gateway for now (maybe forever.)
• Question of "What you get for your money"?
  • Voting rights
  • Once we have a space, meetings will be 'paid members only' apart
    from special public events, and probably some rules for guests &
    prospective members.

  • Decision to try a "Community" section on Drupal for a week,
    review at next meeting.
