There are a lot of term that the maker/hacker/geek community take for granted. This page is intended to provide some resources for finding out the meaning of any terms phrases or memes that are not currently part of your vocabulary. For almost any term you have heard, and many I hope you never hear:

For things that make no sense at all - they may well be a meme:

If neither of these provide you with the word you're after, please post a question to our maker community at makers@makehackvoid.com !!
LTSP is the Linux Terminal Server Project.
In the space, the server is set up to network boot LTSP workstations. Read more »
Server
MHV's server is named 'morphia' (it is the successor to 'epidural', who was named for this.) You can access it as 'morphia' from inside the space, or ssh to space.makehackvoid.com from outside.
morphia is running GNU/Linux - Debian 6 "squeeze". It is configured for various functions in the space - including DNS, DHCP, SMB fileserving, print serving, network booting for LTSP "fat clients". It also runs the space probe.

Network Topology
The LAN in the space is on 10.0.0.0/8, although all the addresses are inside 10.0.0/24 at the moment (when we need the other 1.6 million addresses we have room to branch out!)
What is this?
When you donate or lend an asset to MHV - like a tool, furniture, or even junk - then you have to enter it on the website. The only exceptions are small or commodity items like resistors, common ICs, etc. which just go in the correct box.
After the item is entered in, you print a label to attach to it before it is let loose into the space. You may also have to attach safety information.
This document is currently a DRAFT pending committee approval. It will be an ongoing work in progress. The risk assessment uses these risk criteria:
Risk likelihood
How likely is a hazard to occur?
- Rare - Exceptional circumstances only
- Unlikely - Not expected to occur
- Possible - Could occur at some time
- Frequent - Will probably occur in most circumstances
- Certain - Expected in most circumstances
Risk severity
How Major is a hazard if it occurs?
